Overview

PAN or Permanent Account Number is a mandatory requirement for almost all Indian citizens and commercial entities, especially those who pay income tax and are identifiable under the Income Tax Act, 1961. PAN is a 10-digit unique alphanumeric identification code through which all the monetary transactions are tracked and is issued by the Indian Income Tax Department under the supervision of the Central Board for Direct Taxes (CBDT).

Indian citizens, companies, and entities incorporated or formed in India need to fill up PAN card Form 49A to avail a PAN card. PAN Card Form 49A can be availed from any IT PAN Service Centre (managed by UTIITSL), TIN-Facilitation Centre (TIN-FCs)/PAN Centre (managed by NSDL e-Gov), any other stationery vendor offering such forms, or downloaded from the UTIITSL/NSDL/Income Tax Department website. Fill in your father's name (mandatory unless you have a single mother).

Fill in your mother's name (optional). If both names are provided and no option is selected, the father's name will be printed by default.

Address: Fill in your complete residential and office addresses, including premises name, state, district, town, and PIN code.

Address for Communication: Indicate if your communication address is residential or office.

Email ID and Telephone Number: Provide your email ID and telephone number with ISD and STD codes.

Status of Applicant: Select the appropriate status of the applicant: Individual, Hindu Undivided Family, Company, Partnership Firm, Trusts, Body of Individuals, Local Authority, Government, Association of Persons, Artificial Judicial Persons, or Limited Liability Partnerships.

Registration Number: For companies, firms, and LLPs applying for a PAN card. Not applicable for individuals and HUFs.

Aadhaar Number: Mandatory to link PAN with Aadhaar. Provide your Aadhaar number or Enrolment ID of the Aadhaar application form.

Source of Income: Select your source of income from options like Salary, Income from Business or Profession, Income from House Property, Capital Gains, Income from Other Sources, or No Income. Provide the Business or Profession Code if applicable.

Representative Assessee (RA): Provide details of the representative assessee, such as a manager or guardian of a minor or a non-resident’s agent.

Documents Required: List the documents attached as Proof of Address (POA), Proof of Identity (POI), and Proof of Date of Birth.

Declaration and Signature: Sign the declaration at the end of the form.
