In India, newborn babies are also eligible to apply for a passport. However, obtaining a passport for a newborn requires some additional steps.
Online Process
Here are the steps you need to follow to apply for a passport for a newborn baby online:
Step 1: Visit the official website of Passport Seva Kendra and create an account for the child.
Step 2: Validate the account by providing an email ID, and then log in to the PSK account using the provided credentials.
Step 3: Choose between Option 1 and Option 2 when applying for the passport online. Option 1 allows you to fill out the form online, while Option 2 allows you to download the form and fill it out at your convenience.
Step 4: If you choose Option 1, you can submit the online form immediately. If you choose Option 2, you need to save the completed form in XML format and upload it in the designated section.
Step 5: After paying the application fee, reserve a time slot for further processing.
Offline Process
Here are the steps to apply for a passport for a newborn baby offline:
Step 1: Visit the nearest Passport Seva Kendra office or Passport Office.
Step 2: Fill in the application form and submit it along with the required documents.
Step 3: Pay the application fee.
Required Documents
Applicants must provide the following documents (originals and photocopies):
1. Birth Certificate of the baby
2. Proof of current address (if the parent has a Passport, it suffices)
3. Filled and signed Annexure H, which can be obtained from the Passport Seva Kendra website
4. Passport photo of the baby against a white background
5. Appointment receipt
6. Marriage certificate if the spouse's name is not endorsed on a parent's Passport
7. The birth certificate for the child is issued by the relevant municipal municipality.
Fee Schedule for Infant Passport Applications
For a minor applying for a standard passport in India, the fee is Rs. 1000, with an additional Rs. 2000 for Tatkal (urgent) processing.
Application Processing Time for Infant Passports
The processing time for newborn passports can vary depending on several factors. After a successful application, parents and guardians should receive a confirmation receipt or note. Following this confirmation, the passport is typically mailed to the provided address within 4-7 days.
